The Wayzata Public Schools Board on July 13 approved supplemental salaries for fiscal year 2026—27, following a presentation by Executive Director of Human Resources Dave Lutz.
Lutz explained the changes are annual and apply to pay rates not set by collective-bargaining agreements, such as reserve teachers (building substitutes), casual employees and certain activity workers. He said the reserve teacher recommendation includes a $5 increase for level 1 substitutes and changes to long-term substitute definitions (moving the threshold from 10 days to 20 days to match statute), along with adjustments to half-day coverage rates (from 70% to 60%). Lutz said the proposal reflects a compensation study and targeted increases to improve coverage in hard-to-fill roles.
Lutz estimated the combined effect of increases and decreases across categories to be about 3 to 4 percent overall. Board members asked whether these recommendations were included in the FY27 budget; Lutz confirmed they were included in budget projections and HR had solicited informal feedback from reserve teachers as part of the review.
The board moved and approved the supplemental salaries in a roll-call vote. The HR office will implement the new pay rates for the 2026—27 year and coordinate any necessary communications.
