Clifton Council approves Triangle landscaping plan, will submit to VDOT and solicit bids

The Clifton Town Council voted July 2 to move forward with a formal landscaping and signage plan for the Triangle, authorizing submission of construction plans to the Virginia Department of Transportation and the solicitation of contractor bids.
Bill Ference, speaking for the Special Projects Committee, presented a design package that includes a new sign, formalized plantings, taller trees, low rock walls and grading; the working cost estimate provided to the Council was about $32,000. Council member Wayne Nickum moved to submit the plan to VDOT, authorize Dwayne Nitz or Nickum to file permit applications and associated fees, and solicit bids for construction; Chuck Rusnak seconded and the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members present voting aye.
Councilmember John Powell also raised a separate coordination concern about Community Hall rentals occurring at the same time as large town events; Council agreed to develop a process to manage event scheduling to avoid conflicts.
Next steps are permit review by VDOT and later solicitation and review of bids; final contractor selection requires subsequent Council approval.
