At a Nov. 3, 2012 special meeting, the Clifton Town Council unanimously approved a one-time request by the Clifton Lions Club to use the town gravel parking area for its annual holiday tree sale.
Jim Chesley, speaking on behalf of the Clifton Lions Club, told the council the group plans to sell about 175–200 trees on T-racks from Nov. 24 through Dec. 24, 2012. The club proposed operating hours of 4–8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekends, asked to use the Caboose as a place to wait for customers, and requested permission to place a temporary painted, lighted sign near the Caboose. Chesley also proposed a $400 donation to the Town and offered free trees to any Clifton resident unable to afford one.
Council member Wayne Nickum moved to approve the Lions Club’s request provided the club secures the insurance coverage outlined in its presentation and that use of the Caboose and the temporary sign be authorized. Chuck Rusnak seconded the motion; the council approved it unanimously. The minutes record that the approval was contingent on the insurance requirement described during the presentation.
Mayor Bill Hollaway presided over the meeting, which began at approximately 10:15 a.m. Marilyn Barton, the town treasurer, prepared the minutes; the council approved those minutes on Nov. 13, 2012. The special meeting adjourned after the Lions Club item was resolved.
