Clifton Council okays 'Shops and Parking' signs, hears park and traffic updates

The Clifton Town Council authorized production of "Shops and Parking" directional signs for Ayre Square and approved spending up to $800 for the project at its June 4 meeting.
Dwayne Nitz, reporting ARB business, said CBA members had requested a sign that would read "Shops and Parking" with an arrow pointing toward Chapel Road. Council member Deborah Dillard moved to authorize the signs with a not-to-exceed budget of $800; Chuck Rusnak seconded and a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval.
At the same time the ARB reported several other items: the Clifton Cafe is seeking permission to add a small set of steps and is obtaining a building permit; the ARB approved a 6-foot fence request from Jennifer Heilmann; and the ARB said sandwich boards are not permitted by town code.
Parks and public-works updates included Dwayne Nitz's note that Clifton Creek Park's grass must re-root before the area can be driven on and that the Phase 1 ribbon cutting will be delayed until October. Tom VanBlaricom presented concept plans for Phase 2 of the trail and will return with further details. A lamp post in Caboose Plaza was destroyed by a vehicle; the Council asked staff to develop a plan that may include low-level lighting in the gravel area.
Traffic monitoring also featured in the meeting: Sully District installed speed-survey equipment the day before at two south-side locations, with the devices to remain for two weeks and a first full report due June 19, 2013; two additional locations will be surveyed during the following two-week period.
Chuck Rusnak also distributed a flyer for the Art Guild's Plein Air event, set for June 22–23, and Bill Hollaway reported a Lion's Club request to hold the Labor Day Car Show; the Council said annual authorization should remain required and moved to place that item and Clifton Day 2013 on the next agenda.
