Clifton schedules June 13 vote after public hearing on 2013–14 budget

The Clifton Town Council opened a public hearing at 7:37 p.m. on June 4 on the fiscal-year 2013–14 budget and heard financial highlights from Treasurer Marilyn Barton, but took no final action and set a special meeting for 8 p.m. on June 13 at the Acacia Lodge to adopt the budget.
"The Budget had a net income loss of zero; the Capital Improvements Net Loss was $96,000," Council member Wayne Nickum told the Council during the public hearing. No members of the public offered comments during the hearing.
Treasurer Marilyn Barton reported a cash balance of $659,283.86 as of May 31, 2013 and noted several notable items on the finance reports: $29,949 in BPOL taxes (reported as 894% of budgeted BPOL revenue), $32,500 from the Clifton IDA bond issue settlement, a $13,000 reclassified CBA donation for the basketball court, a $7,423.90 VDOT reimbursement for streetscape expenses, and CIF payments that included a $17,162 basketball court expenditure, $930 for Pink House gutter repairs and $1,400 in streetscape expenses. Barton’s report was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.
Council members emphasized that the June 13 special meeting would be the occasion to adjust and formally approve the FYE 0614 budget. The Council also noted the May 21 special meeting had included a roll-call vote related to budget matters.
The Council adjourned after a later closed executive session on personnel matters; the budget vote is expected at the June 13 special meeting.
