Fundraising, mural and walking-path repairs discussed as commission plans phased East Wing work

On facility improvements, Commissioner Babcock presented a sample east-wing layout and said a full reconfiguration — replacing lighting with recessed fixtures, adding LVP flooring, repainting and making necessary plumbing changes — carries an estimate of about $19,000. Babcock told the commission that volunteer labor (removing carpet and painting) could reduce costs, but that proceeding with the proposed configuration would require preparing a State building plan and retaining a civil engineer. Commissioners discussed approaching the project in phases and obtaining a quote to add a door between the Bride’s changing room and the conference room.
The commission voted to proceed now with maintenance-class items (paint, flooring, electrical and plumbing) for Rooms 2 and 5 and the hallway, and to add the door between Rooms 2 and 3; Babcock was asked to prepare updated cost estimates that include the door. Commissioners said they will seek volunteers and additional fundraising (Kocher noted the commission’s March “round-up” at Piggly Wiggly and estimated that effort could raise $600–$1,000) to cover portions of the work.
Operational context: Kocher reported that the center’s donations account balance is $14,490.01; the $11,240 referenced for mural/walking-path is a subset of funds discussed for capital projects. Commissioners asked for clearer expense descriptions in financial reports to improve transparency.
Next steps: Babcock will obtain updated estimates and report back; the walking-path schedule will depend on warmer weather and contractor availability.
