Montello council approves committee minutes, asks finance to email itemized monthly lists and seeks county, state help on roads

The Montello Common Council on March 2 approved a slate of committee minutes and instructed staff to provide an itemized list of income and expenditures to council members by email each month instead of printed copies.
Motions recorded in the minutes show approvals for the meeting agenda and the minutes of the Feb. 2 council meeting; minutes from several committee meetings (Committee to Investigate City’s Financial Situation on Feb. 3; Finance Committee, Personnel, Public Works, Park, Public Safety, and License & Ordinance from Feb. 11–18); and consented library minutes. The Finance Committee minutes discussion noted that the council receives an itemized list of monthly income and expenditures in folders and asked that the list be emailed going forward.
During the Park Committee minutes approval councilmembers discussed opening the park to dogs. During the Public Safety minutes approval there was discussion regarding a sex offender’s residence. Under mayoral comments the council noted the death of former public works employee David Brunk.
Council members also discussed pursuing county and state assistance to repair roads inside city limits; Streich said he will place a question about loans on next month’s finance agenda. The meeting was adjourned at 7:34 p.m. on a motion by Bill Schrimpf and Dick Dufour. The council’s next meeting is scheduled for April 6, 2026.
