Staff noted the change interacts with federal equal‑opportunity language in the Boy Scouts of America Act and that the policy establishes criteria and a centralized request process (starting with facility use/communications staff) to ensure equitable access.
On responsible use and staff‑student communications, staff explained changes to align board policy with Acts 88 and 89. The policy amendments prohibit use of personal unapproved social accounts or phone numbers for district‑related communications with students and require district‑approved apps or Zoom phone numbers so messages are archived and compliant with accessibility and language needs. Staff said administrators will provide training and work with athletic/activity directors to transition coaches and volunteers to district‑approved tools.
No final controversial votes were recorded on these items at the July 13 meeting; staff will continue implementation and training work where statutes require.
