Galesville council initiates 2025 budget; Park Commission proposes line-item funding

The Galesville Common Council voted to initiate the 2025 budget process by adopting Resolution 2024-015.
Mayor Tom Thatcher reported Park Commission recommendations compiled at its Sept. 18 meeting, including $10,000 for maintenance of High Cliff Park, $12,500 for the summer recreation program, $5,000 for reimbursement of family pool memberships, $1,000 for a camera at Cance Park, and $5,000 for forestry work. Council members also noted additional proposed line items for the budget: $4,200 for downtown flowers and banners, $50,000 for street repair, and $30,000 for sidewalks.
Council member Dave Carlson moved to approve Resolution 2024-015 to initiate the budget process; Jesse Swing seconded and the motion passed with a recorded roll-call vote. The resolution begins the formal budgeting schedule and directs staff to collect the necessary documentation for upcoming hearings and final adoption.
Council members handed out minutes from committee meetings and signaled follow-up budget discussions at future sessions, including a scheduled Park Commission discussion on Oct. 17.
