Galesville council approves Nelson Excavating for Campus Court drainage repairs

The work is to be paid from unspent city street funds and unspent federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The motion also directed referral to the city attorney to determine whether any liability remains with the former developer, Flyway Developers, which a staff member reported is no longer in business.
The Streets & Sidewalks Committee had presented two repair estimates for the drainage issue—$19,000 and $96,530—and urged the council to perform the work before winter weather could complicate repairs. Public Works Director Todd Peterson was present for the meeting and the council relied on the committee’s recommendation when authorizing the lower-cost contract.
The authorization commits city funds for repair work; the city attorney’s review will determine whether the former developer can bear any responsibility for costs.
The council recorded the motion as passed; no additional timeline for construction was announced at the meeting.
