Benton County supervisors approve road closure, personnel pay increase and bridge weight-lift; engineer reports speed-limit sign updates

At its July 7 meeting the Benton County Board of Supervisors approved a temporary one-mile road closure on 31st Avenue, a $1,750 salary increase for a Secondary Roads office manager effective July 12, and removal of a bridge weight restriction; County Engineer announced stickers to change posted 55 mph signs to 60 mph.
The Benton County Board of Supervisors on July 7 approved several routine resolutions and heard departmental updates before adjourning for a county tour.
The board approved Resolution #26-60, a temporary road closure for construction on 31st Avenue in Florence Township (from 79th Street southerly one mile to Benton-Iowa Road). The board also approved Resolution #26-61, a $1,750 salary increase for Barbara Norton, Secondary Roads office manager, effective July 12, 2026, and Resolution #26-62, which removes a prior weight restriction for bridge structure FL-4515 on 32nd Avenue Drive because the structure has been replaced. All votes on these items were recorded as aye by Supervisors Ronald J. Tippett, Tracy Seeman and Bruce Volz.
County Engineer Myron Parizek reported the county has obtained stickers to update posted speed-limit signs from 55 mph to 60 mph and reminded the board that until signs are changed the current posted limit controls enforcement. Supervisor Bruce Volz reported county wellness program participation at 50.83 percent so far, which currently yields a 1 percent premium discount; Supervisor Ronald J. Tippett mentioned an upcoming Board of Health meeting and Volz reported on his attendance at a Linn County supervisors meeting regarding the Morgan Valley Alliant project.
The meeting adjourned at 9:43 a.m.; the board then conducted a planned tour of county facilities, including the new shop at Hannen Lake and the Benton County Landfill.
