Mayor Mike Grim asked for a motion to appoint Ashley Barendse to the Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Bill Copp, expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Councilman Jason Nauman moved the appointment and council recorded unanimous Aye votes.
Council also adopted a resolution listing banks authorized for town deposits with an amendment specifying "as set forth on the attached roster," after a motion from Councilman Joseph Hollis. The motion carried unanimously.
In committee and manager reports, Parks & Recreation Chair Ronald Bowers said donors Don Shockey and Ralph Gregory had contributed benches for the Veterans War Memorial; the chairs were projected to be installed prior to Memorial Day. Town Treasurer Steve Rickards reported preparations for the Newtown Heritage Festival, including planned events such as a pie-eating contest and a scavenger hunt and arrival of commemorative pie plates.
Council approved committee minutes and made several calendar adjustments: the Parks & Rec meeting was moved to May 7 at 5:30 p.m. and the May 28 meeting canceled; the Public Works Water/Sewer Committee meeting was moved to May 22 at 6:00 p.m.
