Pardeeville board approves $1 annual lease for fire truck parking at former EMS building

The Pardeeville Village Board on Jan. 7 approved a lease offering Bay #4 of the former Pardeeville EMS building to the Pardeeville Fire Protection District (PFPD) at an annual rate of $1 and agreed to a temporary access arrangement while a formal lease is drafted.
President Engelmann said she had discussed the matter with the Town of Marcellon and that town officials expect a rental charge; she said she initially proposed $750 per month but the board altered the approach during debate. Trustee Babcock moved the lease terms that the board adopted, which limit the PFPD to Bay #4, require proof of liability insurance on file with village staff, restrict unescorted access for fire personnel (except in emergencies), and permit truck washing provided the PFPD supplies the hose and cleaning materials. Trustee Kopfhamer seconded; the motion carried 6-1.
The board also approved a separate, temporary access authorization that allows Pardeeville Fire Department officers limited entry immediately to prepare equipment and the space for service until the lease is finalized and signed on Jan. 20, 2026. That motion passed 5-2. Attorney Johnson was directed to draft the lease; the record shows Tom Steele is expected to sign the lease for the district after board approval.
Trustees who opposed charging a high rental fee said the district provides mutual assistance and the board should keep costs minimal; trustees who supported a fee said the village should have a formal, written agreement. No rent amount other than the $1 annual rate appeared in the approved motion. The board clarified that the PFPD’s access would be limited to Bay #4 and that the district will be responsible for required supplies and for providing proof of insurance.
The board’s action formalizes short-term operations and sets terms for longer-term occupancy pending the attorney’s draft lease and the PFPD’s insurance documentation. The lease and temporary access measure both passed without full unanimity and will be finalized at an upcoming meeting.
