Village of Plain to consider making Cherry Street one-way after clinic transfers adjacent street

Village President Ray Ring told the board at its May 13 meeting that a medical clinic plans to transfer ownership of the street and associated properties on the north side of its building to the Village of Plain. The board discussed a plan to convert the acquired roadway into a one‑way street beginning at the intersection of Cherry Street and Nachreiner Avenue and continuing through the newly acquired section to improve safety near St. Luke’s School.
Ring said the change will be codified by ordinance, with readings scheduled for June and July. As part of the transfer agreement, the clinic and St. Luke’s School will retain ownership and maintenance responsibility for sidewalks along the new one‑way street in front of their respective buildings and to the playground; the minutes note this arrangement exempts the Village from future sidewalk repair costs and related ADA compliance responsibilities adjacent to those properties.
The board did not adopt an ordinance at the May meeting; the proposal will return for formal consideration at the readings planned in the coming months.
