Finance director Mary told the council the town will prepare the fiscal 2026 budget using new software rather than paper worksheets and asked the council to select dates for a training and a workshop to help directors learn the system and submit budgets.
"Instead of worksheets and paper, it's going to be all on a laptop," Mary said, describing how department directors will view and edit budgets on-screen and upload them into a single platform.
Council members discussed dates and agreed on a two-day plan: a training session on Wednesday, April 23 starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by budget work into Thursday, April 24 if needed. Mary said the aim is to have a preliminary budget ready for presentation in May and a final budget later in July, and she asked departments to allow at least 10 days to complete entries in the new system.
Councilors asked that Mary provide one-on-one support as directors learn the software and discussed timing conflicts around Easter and court schedules. The council scheduled the training and tentative workshop to balance director availability and the needs of the council agenda.
The mayor and council thanked Mary for organizing the training and said the sessions will be used to produce a preliminary budget for the May agenda and final budget work thereafter.
