The Port Wing board heard a Fire Department/EMT report on July 21 that noted recent maintenance and raised the idea of studying a regional fire district.
A department representative told the board the primer cable to the water pump has been repaired but the rear intake valve on pumper #1 needs replacement. The representative said the department would like the board to research creation of a fire district that could include Port Wing, Orienta, Herbster and Cornucopia to improve prospects for funding and grant preference.
Board members did not take formal action on forming a district at the meeting; the suggestion was recorded as a topic for further research. No dollar amounts or timelines for valve replacement were provided in the minutes.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 11, 2025, where the item could be placed on a future agenda if the board requests further study.
