Commissioners weigh $11,500 fix for collapsed sidewalk and fence at 4299 Bridal Lane

Township staff told commissioners at the July 14 caucus about a safety‑related erosion problem at 4299 Bridal Lane that has lifted a sidewalk and damaged a privately owned fence. The manager reported public works obtained one estimate for moving the sidewalk and related stabilization work for $11,500; the estimate described 184 linear feet of work, 46 blocks, a 4‑inch sidewalk, topsoil, seeding and ground cover.

Brett (announcements/presentations) described the site and said, "The sidewalk's lifted up. It's a safety concern for sure," urging a prompt inspection. The manager said the homeowner has agreed to install a replacement fence immediately after the township completes the sidewalk work, if the board approves the repair.

Commissioners debated who is responsible for the repair and whether the stormwater authority should pay for remediation. One commissioner noted the township has spent significant funds on bank restoration through the stormwater authority and suggested the authority inspect the site. The manager and the engineer, Andrew Propell, agreed to inspect the location and provide a recommendation. The manager said staff can obtain another bid if necessary, but noted that procurement thresholds may not require competitive bids for the current estimate.

Next steps: Andrew Propell will inspect the Bridal Lane site and report back with his assessment; staff will confirm whether the stormwater authority has jurisdiction or funding responsibility and will return with a recommendation at a subsequent meeting. No contract award or formal authorization occurred at the caucus.
