Mayor Joseph Altamonte opened the item and the council voted to adopt the measure after brief questions from members. A councilmember asked, “Does this agreement have any effect on our volunteers?” seeking assurance the contract would not displace volunteer personnel. Borough staff responded that the agreement pertains to 911 and dispatcher services and “is solely related to dispatchers services.”
The resolution authorizes the county to provide communications support for public‑safety calls; the council’s recorded discussion and the staff response made clear the memorandum of understanding is about dispatch operations rather than altering volunteer firefighting or EMS staffing. The council approved the resolution by roll call.
Next steps: the agreement covers a multiyear period through 2030; the sheriff’s communications division will assume the contracted dispatch functions as spelled out in the approved resolution.
