Selectboard accepts federal highway safety grant to reimburse police overtime

The Orford Selectboard reviewed and accepted a federal Office of Highway Safety grant on Sept. 25 that will reimburse the town for extra police patrol hours and related employer costs.
The grant covers up to $6,000 for the period Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025, including reimbursement for extra patrol hours, Social Security and New Hampshire Retirement costs tied to additional hours worked by Chief Bachus for the National Campaigns for Highway Safety. Selectboard member Kevin Follensbee moved to accept the grant agreement; Larry Taylor seconded the motion and it passed 3-0.
The board also handled routine administrative business, including reviewing correspondence (a Casa funding request, an open-house invitation from the Grafton County Registry of Deeds, and a septic approval) and approving manifests, payroll and accounts payable before adjourning at 8:00 p.m.
