Orange Select Board approves two abatements, reviews budget and offers seat to resident

The Orange Select Board on Dec. 3 approved and signed two tax abatements to correct clerical errors: $85.50 for a Town property on Williams Road that was not marked exempt on tax bills, and $14 for an incorrectly applied inventory penalty. Together the abatements total $99.50.
During the meeting the board reviewed the municipal budget through Nov. 30, 2024, recording expenses of $316,878.27 against a budget of $339,145.00, approximately 93% expended to date.
In public comment resident Sharon Proulx reported mail-delivery issues that have delayed tax payments; she said she has been checking the Post Office daily. The board did not record an on-the-record remedy during the meeting.
Lucy Z LaChance introduced herself to the board and identified herself as a social worker and case manager at Mt. Ascutney Hospital—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— the Ottauquechee Healthy Center and said she is interested in joining the Select Board. Chair Aaron Allen offered her the remainder of the open term through March 2027; LaChance said she would reply in the coming days.
The board confirmed its next meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at 6 p.m.
