Orford fire and police report July activity; fire truck maintenance noted

Fire Chief Steve Sanborn reported to the Selectboard that the Orford Fire Department responded to 15 calls in July 2024, including five medical calls, two car crashes, two mutual-aid responses, two incidents involving downed wires, two agency assists and two fire alarms. The department sent four members to an upcoming Fire School at Rivendell Academy. Sanborn also reported a maintenance issue: air cans on the rescue truck were found to be rusted and need replacing.
Police Chief Bachus was unable to attend but submitted his July report. The Orford Police Department handled 98 calls for service in July (10 logged by the New Hampshire State Police and 88 by Orford PD). The department’s July activity included six animal complaints, a fraud case, one criminal threatening complaint, two suspicious-activity calls, two alarms and two motor-vehicle crashes. Officers issued 13 traffic summonses from 43 traffic-enforcement stops. In July, Chief Bachus provided five hours of traffic control for the Prouty and four hours assisting Camp Merriwood with camper drop-off; the department plans additional contracted hours in August for the State Highway Safety “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
The Selectboard heard these reports as part of routine departmental updates; no action items were recorded other than acknowledging the maintenance need for the rescue truck and noting planned training and enforcement activities.
