Road agent reports paving delay; board to pursue removal of parked grader and follow up on school bus stops

Road Agent Glenn Miller reported to the Town of Orange Select Board on Aug. 5 that Cardigan Mountain Road is unlikely to be paved this year because higher-priority projects elsewhere have exceeded their budgets. As a result, planned work — including an apron repair on Peaslee Road — will not be addressed at this time.
Miller also raised a recurring operational concern about a Remacle Construction grader parked on Burnt Hill Road. He said he plans to contact Remacle directly; the Select Board instructed Clerk Catherine Souza that, if contact is not successful, the town will send a registered letter requesting removal of the equipment.
Resident Kathy Stacy reported that the school bus company removed stops on Burnt Hill Road, citing the condition of the roads, and that Miller had not been notified of the change. Kathy told the board she will follow up with the school board and district administrator and report back to the Select Board.
The board did not make any new funding commitments for paving during the meeting; the comments serve as administrative direction to pursue removal of the grader and to confirm the status of school bus stops with the school district. No formal vote was required beyond the procedural direction to pursue contact and, if necessary, written notice to the contractor.
The Select Board’s next meeting is set for Aug. 20, 2024, when operational follow-ups may be revisited.
