Depew trustees approve permits, contracts and hire; leave zoning overhaul open

The Village Board of Trustees of Depew voted July 13 to approve a package of routine permits, contracts and an appointment while leaving a proposed zoning overhaul open for further drafting.
The board authorized the Depew Volunteer Fire Department to use the Fireman’s Park pavilion for two community events (an Oct. 18 tailgate and an Oct. 25 Halloween candy drive) and approved the department’s use of Squad 2 for an extrication training on July 21 in Cheektowaga. Trustees also approved Founders Day street closures and vendors for the July 16–18 weekend and authorized National Night Out at Fireman’s Park on Aug. 4.
On finance and contracts, trustees authorized the mayor to sign amendments and contracts with Municipal Solutions Inc. related to the Phase 10 sewer project and an amended general financial services contract. The board approved submission of claims and accounts for payment totaling $874,418.92 across general, community development, sewer and capital-project funds.
The board approved the concept of selling a 17.2-acre parcel at 0 Broadway to a private buyer (Bridal, LLC), with trustees voting to approve the purchase agreement’s substance pending final attorney paperwork.
In personnel business the trustees appointed Ryan Litwin to the police department, effective Aug. 2, 2026, pending civil-service clearance. Police Chief Jim McNamara welcomed Litwin and noted his EMT and U.S. Army National Guard experience.
The board also authorized the village to pursue a New York State water-infrastructure grant (WIFA) for the sewer Phase 10 project and approved the related contract amendment for Phase 10 design and work. Trustees adopted modest updates to the employee handbook and approved other routine items including a CDBG sidewalk bid advertisement.
