Freestone County commissioners approved creation of a five-person committee to review the county's group medical-insurance offerings.
Clerk (speaker 1) said the committee can include department heads or elected officials who may designate an employee. The clerk read five volunteers: Kelsey, Kelly, Tammy Carruthers and Scott Shaw, and noted one additional slot was available for appointment. Commissioner (speaker 3) moved to appoint the listed volunteers and the court recorded a motion and a second; Chair (speaker 2) announced the motion carried.
Why it matters: the committee will review the county’s insurance packages and report back with recommendations, a step supervisors said is intended to ensure better coverage and cost oversight.
The court scheduled the committee to meet next week to examine insurance packets and return with findings or recommendations to the commissioners.
