Committee member: Stage vendor has taken down payment, engineering plans incoming; concrete bids next

Pembroke Recreation Commission members were told the contractor for a new park stage has received a down payment and is preparing engineering plans, and that the commission must submit those plans to solicit concrete bids.

"David Jordan reported the down payment has been received by the company doing the stage kit," a committee member said during the meeting, adding, "They are working on engineering plans." The member said the roof will be metal and "the metal roof will be green," and that the wood stain will be clear.

The commission discussed next steps: once plans arrive the building committee will review them and the town will solicit bids for the concrete pad and related site work. "Once town receives them… we're also gonna need a PVC conduit for power to it," the committee member said, describing utility and foundation needs. The member estimated on-site installation would take roughly a day.

Several members expressed concern about timing. One member said the building committee’s late interventions risk slowing the project, arguing that contractors and the project lead should be allowed to proceed. "They're jumping in and find[ing] problems that have a delay," the member said. Other members countered that the project has already passed a public hearing and select board review and that removing a pole in the old stage footprint has already been addressed.

Members also discussed keeping the old stage usable until the new stage is built so scheduled events — including Old Home Day — can continue. The committee did not set a firm completion date; several members said progress depends on when the engineering plans are returned and when concrete bids can be accepted.

The building committee will meet to review plans once the vendor provides them; the commission indicated it would pursue concrete bids immediately after plan submission.
