Eastchester approves police-union MOA to spread terminal-leave pay over three years

The Eastchester Town Board approved a memorandum of agreement on July 7 with the Town of Eastchester Police Officers Union that permits certain retiring officers to receive their 60-day terminal-leave benefit through biweekly payroll over a three-year notice period, if the officer provides written notice at least three years before retirement.
Supervisor Colavita described the arrangement as mutually beneficial: spreading the terminal-leave payment eases the town's lump-sum cash outlay and allows the officer to receive incremental payments, while warning it could affect pension calculations. "If a town police officer gives us written notice of his intent to retire at least 3 years in advance of his retirement date, then his 60 day or her 60 day terminal leave benefit will be paid through the biweekly payroll for those for that 3 year period," Colavita said.
The board moved and approved the MOA on a unanimous roll call. Supervisor Colavita said he would execute the MOA upon a favorable vote; no amendments or dissent were recorded in the meeting transcript.
