Eastchester adopts AI policy for town employees, emphasizing review and data safeguards

The Eastchester Town Board voted on July 7 to adopt a townwide policy guiding employee use of artificial intelligence tools.
Supervisor Colavita told the board the policy is intended to manage risks such as security, copyright and the so-called "black box" effect, and to require a review process before AI-generated material is used publicly. "You have to deal with, evaluation of the tools, production of confidential data... we have to have, like, a review process, and we wanna give out good information, not just AI generated stuff that may not be, good," he said.
The measure was moved, seconded and approved on a roll call vote. The policy, as presented, directs departments to assess tools for security and accuracy, to limit handling of confidential information in AI tools, and to follow an internal review before releasing AI-assisted material.
Board members did not record amendments to the policy during the meeting; staff will incorporate the policy into the town manual and implement department-level procedures and training.
