The Pembroke Economic Development Committee on Monday adopted a set of Facebook posting guidelines that limit content to information about EDC projects, public meetings and town events and establish a three-business-day approval window for proposed posts. Committee members voted to adopt the guidelines "as amended" after debating turnaround time for administrators.
The measure responds to concerns that the town website migration left community event listings spread across multiple places. The guidelines require that proposed posts be emailed to committee administrators for review; if members do not register an objection within three business days the post is treated as approved. Committee member (Speaker 3) moved the motion to adopt the guidelines and members signaled approval by voice vote.
Supporters said the policy strikes a balance between timely promotion and committee oversight. "I think a three day window would be a good choice because, you know, that way everybody gets in," a committee member said, arguing that the limit gives members time to review without stalling promotion. Administrators will be added to the page so multiple committee members can publish and share posts to larger community groups to widen reach.
The committee also clarified the scope of posts: the EDC Facebook page will inform the community about EDC projects, public meetings and town-organized events, but it will not serve as an advertising wall for paid promotions. The guidelines will be implemented by the social-media administrators and applied to posts, business-spotlight notices and event announcements going forward.
Next steps: administrators will finalize the posting workflow and share a copy of the adopted guidance with the committee; the group expects to use the page to promote the farmers market, business-spotlight posts and community garden items ahead of the next meeting.
