Planning staff wins approval for slimmed master-plan format; commissioners require history and map access

The City of Wildwood planning group voted to adopt a revised format for the city’s updated master plan that shortens the printed document and uses website links to keep appendices (maps, action plans) current.
Joe (staff member) told commissioners the proposed format would include a title page listing adoption dates, acknowledgments, a condensed introduction with planning history, an executive summary at the front of each of the six elements, and links to appendices so updates occur on the website rather than in paper appendices. He said the aim is to focus the document on goals, objectives and policies for the next 10 years while preserving key context.
Commissioners asked for a clear definition of what a master plan is and for a short historical statement that explains county-era development problems and why Wildwood’s approach differs. ‘‘I love this history part at the front,’’ one commissioner said, and another requested color maps in the book or an obvious link to the map gallery. Staff confirmed there are no copyright barriers to using the historical text and said contributors would be acknowledged.
The planning group moved and seconded to include the history and the definition in the introduction and then adopted the proposed format with the amendments. Staff said drafts of the executive-summary pages (with QR codes) will appear in the next packet ahead of adoption by city council later in the year.
