Bedford County Salary Board approves pay adjustments for 17 employees; 911 coordinator’s pay set 3–1

The Bedford County Salary Board approved pay adjustments and several appointments at its June 9 meeting, including a 3–1 vote to set Catey Cain’s wage as 911 coordinator at $22.60 per hour effective May 18, 2026.

The board, which convened at 10:18 a.m. after the Board of Commissioners meeting, approved the May 12, 2026, minutes on a motion by Melissa Cottle, Treasurer/Secretary, seconded by Commissioner Baughman. No old business was reported and the agenda was amended to add items 13–17 before the board moved into new business.

Under new business the Salary Board approved a list of wage rates and appointments recommended by department heads. Notable actions included the appointment of Cheryl Fouse as Assistant Director of Domestic Relations at an annual salary of $63,667.79 (longevity credited at 20 years); multiple Caseworker I hires for Children and Youth Services at $18.03 per hour effective June 1, 2026; Marissa Dibert hired as an LPN at $26.50 per hour; and a series of corrections and clerk typist appointments at union-negotiated hourly rates. The board approved these personnel actions on a motion made by Melissa Cottle and seconded by Commissioner Winck.

A separate motion to set Catey Cain’s pay rate to $22.60 per hour was made by Commissioner Baughman and seconded by Melissa Cottle. The transcript records Commissioners Stiles and Baughman and Melissa Cottle voting to approve the motion and Commissioner Winck voting in opposition; the motion carried 3–1.

Commissioner Baughman moved to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., the motion was seconded by Melissa Cottle, and the board adjourned. The board noted the next meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2026, unless called sooner by the Board of Commissioners.
