Resident urges Commission to reopen Randolph Hill Road parking area, citing recreation and economic concerns

During the public-comment portion of the Feb. 5 meeting, Edith Tucker told the Commission she was concerned that the Randolph Hill Road parking area has been closed this winter and requested the Commission form a study committee to explore options (including plowing) to preserve recreational access for activities such as skiing and sledding.
Tucker asked that a 2018 letter from Sarah Eusden Gallop, president of the Randolph Foundation, be included in the minutes; the letter—read into the record—thanked Tucker for a donation and described a community fundraising campaign that raised $52,500 to purchase a 16-acre parcel at the foot of Mt. Crescent and $26,000 for a conservation easement protecting adjacent access and trails.
Mark Kelley said the Commission has been "wrestling with how to handle" the parking-area issue and is trying to balance resident access and overuse concerns. David Willcox called the closure temporary and noted the Planning Board held a hearing on the matter last year; Walter Graff said the situation "has gotten out of control and needs to be mitigated." The Commission agreed site visits and further study were appropriate next steps. No vote or commitment of funds was made at the meeting.
