Commission to post approved management plan and work with NHFG on wildlife openings and trails

Elise Lawson, identified in the meeting as a wildlife biologist, told the Commission that 15 transects were established between 2008 and 2012 and recommended revitalizing and better marking them (4x4 posts were suggested for trailhead marks). She proposed adding transect information to trail kiosks and urged that vernal-pool data be submitted for the town inventory.
David DeGruttola (LandVest) told the Commission that the Management Plan has been approved and that he will post a copy to the Town website. DeGruttola said he will coordinate with NHFG to plan a wildlife opening on the Potter tract as part of implementing the plan.
Lawson also suggested reviewing riparian habitat buffers on the Farrar Farm and discussed an interpretive trail proposal for the Meiklejohn property; commissioners favored establishing a walking trail with boardwalks or bog bridges where needed, and suggested using QR codes to present interpretive material and allow multiple trail options.
The Commission agreed to follow up on marking transects, posting the Management Plan online and planning the wildlife opening with NHFG and LandVest. No formal votes on expenditures or contracts were taken at the meeting.
