The Pittsburg Selectboard heard an update on March 24 about a major compactor failure at the transfer station. The compactor's cylinder "let go," rendering the unit temporarily unusable; Atlantic Recycling repaired the machine on March 12–13, saved the old cylinder and will evaluate the price and feasibility of a rebuild.
S3 noted the repair could affect the equipment repairs line item and suggested a special warrant article if the town needs to tap capital reserves. The board also discussed a plan to put concrete work at the transfer station out to bid in early May to replace or improve the apron area and improve operations.
S8 and others thanked town staff and contractors for expediting repairs and for managing the temporary disruption. The board asked staff to coordinate the bid schedule with Ricky and Wayne to ensure timely completion should a contractor be selected.
Outcome: The compactor was repaired and the board will advertise concrete work with a target bid closing of April 14 and planned construction in mid-May if a contractor is selected.
