Dr. Dawson told the board the district’s previous application ranked among the top five statewide but was not funded in the 2026 cycle because of limited state funding. He said staff will revise the proposal to strengthen long-term sustainability and include an apprenticeship model to support teacher assistants transitioning to certified teachers and to bolster support for early-career teachers.
Board members expressed support, noting the model can provide career paths for experienced teachers who prefer classroom leadership roles without moving into administration. Staff said submitting the application obligates the district to nothing locally until a grant award is made; any agreements or budget revisions would return to the board for approval. The board approved the recommendation unanimously and staff will submit the application by the RFP deadline (Aug. 14).
