PITTSBURG, N.H. — The town meeting on March 11 approved Article 11, allocating $37,000 to set and pour a retaining wall and slab at the transfer station.
The figure was described to voters as an estimate from a single contractor; a presenter outlined technical details: about a 55‑foot retaining wall roughly 10 feet, 8 inches high, and a slab roughly 8 feet by 25 feet and 8 inches thick. The presenter said excavation and gravel fill would be performed by the highway department and noted that if the appropriation passes the work would be put out to bid.
A resident asked where the $37,000 number came from and urged that contracts be clarified before appropriating funds. A town speaker replied the amount came from one contractor’s estimate and confirmed the town would go to bid if the article passed. One town staff estimate for town-labor dirt work was given as roughly $2,000.
The article was adopted and a motion to restrict reconsideration passed. Town leaders said the Select Board and public-works staff will solicit bids and return contract details as required by procurement rules.
"I've got an estimate from a contractor," the presenter said during discussion, noting that the figure would be subject to competitive bidding.
