Pittsburg adds $5,000 to bridge reserve as officials say state oversight may guide replacement

PITTSBURG, N.H. — At the March 11 town meeting Pittsburg voters added $5,000 to the Happy Corner Bridge Capital Reserve Fund.
During discussion a town representative explained the reserve balance and the role of the state in bridge replacement planning. "The current balance in that account before this $5,000 is $144,006.15," the town representative said, and added that while a full replacement would cost substantially more, state requirements obligate the town to begin planning and set aside funds.
Residents asked whether the state would assume the full project; town staff said the state had previously engaged a state engineer and that any final construction plan would require further steps and likely additional funding beyond annual reserve contributions.
The article was adopted and a motion to restrict reconsideration passed. Town staff said they will update the Select Board and the public on next steps for state coordination and project scoping.
