Doug Smith, chairman of the Town of Richmond Planning Board, proposed that the board draft a regulation granting the Planning Board authority to correct clerical errors in the town’s Zoning Ordinances without initiating substantive changes that would require a town vote.
Smith said the board currently lacks authority to make substantive changes without a town vote and suggested the matter be placed on next year’s ballot. He proposed meeting with the selectmen — who have authority to call a special town meeting — to request a special meeting to consider adding the regulation prior to the annual town vote.
Board members discussed the idea and agreed to keep the proposal on the agenda for further discussion and outreach to the selectmen. No formal motion or vote was recorded on the proposal at the Feb. 17 meeting.
