City Administrator Kelly Hayworth told the Coralville City Council that the FG Road project received a low bid of $2.78 million, well below the staff estimate of $3.54 million. Hayworth said the city is discussing next steps with Johnson County and that the FG Road and Dubuque Street roundabout are being targeted for construction in calendar year 2027.
Hayworth also reported the city will be meeting with a potential new hockey owner in the coming days to discuss replacing the Heartlanders for the 2027–2028 season; no agreement or tenant was announced at the work session.
The council did not take any formal action on the FG Road bid or arena tenancy during the work session; Hayworth’s remarks were presented as an update to the council.
