Keisha also described a recent transition meeting with Acting Mayor Dr. Nocera and raised a proposal for how the commission handles grant awards. "I did have that conversation with him," she said, and suggested the commission consider fixed award amounts — for example, $2,000 or $5,000 — so small grants can be distributed more evenly and avoid applicants requesting sums beyond the commission's capacity. Keisha said the mayor understood the rationale and that the subject could be taken up in future meetings.
Commissioner Gary announced a job change. "May 16 was my last day at the community health center," he said, and noted he began a new position on June 9 as vice president of programs at the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV). Other commissioners praised Gary’s work in the community and discussed whether he would join commissioners onstage during the fireworks presentation.
Gary asked about parking and attendee guidance for the downtown event; Keisha reiterated that the city website lists closures and parking and that she will circulate the details to the group. Chair closed the meeting after receiving no further business.
A motion to adjourn, moved by Gary and seconded by Pam, carried and the meeting ended at 5:18 p.m.
