Randolph Forest Commission approves landowner's request to remove beavers flooding adjacent property

The Randolph Forest Commission voted May 7 to allow a landowner to hire a trapper to remove beavers that have flooded property abutting the Community Forest.
At the chairman's invitation, Judy Kenison said her land was flooded because of beaver activity and asked for permission to hire a trapper to address the problem. David DeGruttola explained that "because this was not an official 'trapping season,' the only trappers who could legally do that job would be those specially licensed as 'nuisance trappers,'" and that those trappers would likely charge a substantial fee; he added that hobby trappers could assist after the official season begins in the fall, probably for little or no charge. The Commission said it recognized its responsibility of care to neighboring landowners and voted to approve Kenison's request.
Separately, the Randolph Mountain Club requested landowner permission to undertake maintenance on the Mt. Crescent Trail. The Commission voted to give the chairman authority to sign whatever documents are necessary to provide the RMC the needed permission.
The meeting opened at 6:35 p.m.; David Willcox moved to adopt the April minutes and the motion was adopted. The Commission adjourned by general consent at 7:45 p.m.
