Archertown Road Phase II running under budget; Selectboard weighs contractor fix and re-prices surplus truck

The Orford Selectboard received multiple highway updates at its Oct. 9 meeting, including progress on Archertown Road Phase II, unresolved repair work on Phase I and decisions on town vehicles.
Town Administrator Esther Dobbins-Marsh reported that Archertown Road Phase II expenditures to date are approximately $7,600 under budget; the figure will be adjusted after reconciliation with a pending Blaktop invoice that Erin Darrow, the project engineer, is reviewing. Wanner Earthmoving is scheduled to perform Phase II cleanup following recent heavy rain, the week of Oct. 14.
Road Agent Ted Nutter said he has been trying to contact R&D Paving about repairs to a base coat on Phase I but has received no response. Selectboard members discussed whether to hire another contractor to make the repairs and then bill R&D; they agreed Nutter should attempt contact one more time, and if unsuccessful, Taylor will follow up. Nutter will also request an estimate from Blaktop for top-coat work to support a warrant-article request for the March 2025 annual meeting.
On equipment, the 6-wheel Western Star will have correct springs installed at no cost the week of Oct. 14. A 2019 F-550 posted for sale on Municibid received an offer of $27,700 deemed too low; the board agreed to repost it with a minimum bid of $35,000.
The Selectboard directed staff to continue reconciling invoices and to return with cost estimates for the remaining top coat work that may be included in the 2025 warrant articles.
