Orford police and fire chiefs report August calls; fire department schedules pump and hose testing

Fire Chief Sanborn told the Selectboard the department responded to 22 calls in August, including 15 medical calls, one fire, one mutual aid response and three incidents involving downed trees and wires. Four department members attended the Upper Valley regional fire school at Rivendell. Sanborn said pumps will be tested that weekend, hose testing is scheduled for Sept. 23, and the fire trucks are slated for annual maintenance and inspections in September.
Police Chief Bachus reported 156 calls for service in August, with the Orford Police Department responding to 153 and State Police responding to three. Reported incidents included a theft case, assistance with a missing person, an illegal dumping complaint, a neighbor dispute, a welfare check and a motor vehicle collision. There were 66 traffic enforcement stops in August with 12 summonses issued; additionally, as part of a Highway Safety traffic initiative there were 32 stops and five summonses issued.
Kling raised a planning-board referral regarding a proposed multi‑unit building at 485 Route 10 and asked what fire codes would apply given possible impacts to the Village Water District. Chief Sanborn said once a formal plan is proposed the Fire Department will take steps based on state and federal codes.
