Hamilton K-12 Schools officials agreed to apply prior years of service to eligible employees’ contracts, subject to verification, and to add beneficiary-notice forms to preemployment and annual enrollment materials, district staff said at a short recorded meeting.
The action matters because the adjustment affects pay placement on the district salary matrix for teachers and other employees. "There are 70 individuals who maybe didn't meet the deadlines for some of the rollover," a Staff member said, and the estimated salary increase tied to making those placements was "a $39,000 increase" in total. Committee member pressed for a final decision on whether seven teachers would be placed accurately on the matrix, provided they submit the required verification documentation.
The district did not record a formal roll-call vote. Instead, participants reached an informal agreement on the core issues during the meeting: verification must follow the same process used for other teachers, and salary adjustments will be applied once verification is complete. On retroactive pay, Committee member asked whether the increases would appear on the first paycheck; Staff member said it "might not happen this first paycheck" but affirmed the district’s intent to ensure the increases are implemented.
Staff also raised a separate administrative change: including a beneficiary-notice form in preemployment packets so the district would know whom to notify and to whom payments should be sent if an employee dies. The Committee member noted the district’s contract contains an additional coverage clause in cases "due to violence," which has implications for how beneficiaries are notified and how coverage is administered. District members agreed to include beneficiary information as part of annual enrollment procedures, similar to life-insurance beneficiary designations.
No formal motion or vote was recorded during the meeting; participants characterized the outcomes as contingent on verification and administrative follow-through. Next steps are for staff to complete verification of service records, apply salary placements and corresponding payroll adjustments as appropriate, and distribute beneficiary-notice materials during onboarding and annual enrollment.
The meeting opened with a recording notice that "the public portions of this meeting will be recorded in audio video format," and concluded after the single agenda item was addressed.
