Franklin County proclaims Zion Union Cemetery Day to mark historic site

Staff introduced the proclamation and named Chris Frisbie, who the staff said has been instrumental in stewardship and recognition efforts in Mercersburg, to accept remarks. Frisbie described more than 20 years of volunteer stewardship and thanked county partners, local historians and community volunteers for preservation work.
The proclamation, read by the chair, states that Zion Union Cemetery has served as a place of remembrance and heritage since 1876, and notes that 13 veterans of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment are interred there. The text also recognizes veterans from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Commissioners moved and seconded adoption of the proclamation; the board approved the item by voice vote and took photographs with the honoree after the reading.
