Pecatonica board approves bleachers bid, authorizes used lift and several invoices; tables several facilities items

At its April meeting the Pecatonica Area School District board approved several capital and contracting items while tabling a handful of facilities proposals for additional information.
The board accepted a bid from Northstar Equipment for replacement bleachers at the high school for $169,474, a choice the administration said would allow installation by the 2026 graduation. Trustees voted to approve the Northstar bid by voice (motion carries 7–0).
The board also authorized purchase of a used lift from United Rentals not to exceed $11,000 to support facility needs, and approved multiple vendor invoices over $4,000 included in the packet: CG Schmidt ($617,334.91), Masters Building Solutions ($48,000) and a $30,750 purchase of Clear Touch panels for secondary classrooms. Those motions carried by recorded voice as presented (all reported 7–0).
Board members tabled several time‑sensitive but understudied projects. A $37,053 proposal to install door‑hold sensors on middle‑ and high‑school exterior doors — intended to trigger alarms if doors are held open — was tabled pending answers on programming and monitoring specifics. A $42,469 estimate to pave an extended elementary parking lot (about 30 additional spaces) was tabled after trustees questioned per‑space cost and timing relative to referendum funds. Trustees also tabled entrance canopy work for the middle/high school to allow roof inspections and further review.
Personnel and finance actions included approval of the 2025–26 teacher contract (2.95% salary increase) and a matching 2.95% increase for support staff; the teacher contract carried 6–1 and the support staff motion carried 6–1. The board approved hiring of a full‑time evening elementary custodian, accepted donations including $1,000 toward outstanding lunch balances, and approved a sweep agreement with other districts authorizing shared access to certain equipment.
Board members also received reports about a recent water leak at the elementary that damaged part of the new gym floor; the construction manager CD Schmidt accepted responsibility and indicated subcontractor or contractor costs would cover repairs. The superintendent said some floor sections likely need replacement.
The board adjourned at 9:35 p.m. and directed follow‑up items — including the tabling decisions and Argyle‑related options — to the superintendent for future reports to the board.
