Lancaster City recognizes Parks and Recreation Month; Lancaster Rec highlights summer programs

Lancaster City Council on July 14 adopted Resolution No. 67 recognizing July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month and thanking parks and public works staff for their work.
Councilor Miller introduced the resolution and invited Jack Bingman, associate executive director of Lancaster Rec, to highlight current programs. Bingman said the Rec operates summer playground programs at six city parks and "serve[s] lunch and snack to over 1,000 kids throughout the summer," and noted partnerships that add STEM programming for children, teen open gyms, a Unity Cup soccer tournament celebrating immigrant and refugee communities, and Senior Planet tech classes for older residents.
Councilors thanked the Lancaster Rec Commission and the Department of Public Works for storm response and operations. The council approved the resolution by voice vote and presented ceremonial citations to Lancaster Rec representatives.
