The Juneau Common Council on Tuesday approved an updated job description for the Recreation Program Coordinator and named a temporary director while routine city payments were certified.
The council voted 6-0 to adopt Resolution 61-2025, which implements the revised Recreation Program Coordinator job description after the Personnel Committee reviewed and recommended the change. Committee chair Bob Chapman said the committee also discussed oversight of the Recreation Department and changes to the Recreation Committee’s makeup.
Separately, council members approved Amended Resolution 60-2025, appointing Gail Amsler to step in as interim recreation director; the motion, moved by Jane Fude and seconded by Troy Justmann, carried 6-0. The Recreation Committee had reported that recent basketball tournaments went well and singled out Amsler for special thanks.
On finance matters, the council approved $678,870.64 in checks and $208,748.66 in electronic payments by a recorded motion that carried 6-0. Clerk/Treasurer Caley Visser reported that the city’s financial audit is scheduled to begin next week.
The council also granted two regular bartender licenses — to Bryce Toles and Courtney Goldbach — valid through June 30, 2026; that motion carried 6-0. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
Actions recorded at the meeting included adoption of Resolution 61-2025 (updated Recreation Program Coordinator job description), approval of Amended Resolution 60-2025 (appointing an interim recreation director) and the certification of routine city payments. No contested votes or dissent were recorded.
