Recreation commissioners report record soccer turnout; basketball fees to rise

At the Oct. 27 meeting, Steve Small updated the Town of Lyme Recreation Commission on tennis, soccer and basketball programs.
Small reported that the town’s new tennis sessions went well in their first year and operated at no cost to the Recreation Department. He also said the soccer season saw record participation with 143 players and has now concluded.
On basketball, commissioners said scheduling is nearly complete, but Dina Cutting recommended splitting the kindergarten through second-grade group to ease management. The Booster Club had offered to donate uniforms but very recently confirmed it will not supply them this year, so the Recreation Department will again provide uniforms. Commissioners noted a need for a 3rd/4th grade girls coach and discussed recruiting more volunteer coaches and parent involvement.
To offset rising expenses, the commission agreed to increase the program fee for grades 3–8 by $15, raising it from $60 to $75. Curtis Shepard will contact Chris Pratt to ask whether the Booster Club can help offset the additional cost.
There were no formal roll-call votes recorded in the minutes for these updates; the fee increase and staffing plans were entered as agreed actions and follow-up items. The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025.
