She reported that 24 vendors have expressed interest so far and that staff anticipates bringing final program updates back to the board for approval once operational specifics are complete, with a target launch date of Sept. 1, 2026.
Board members pressed on vendor counts, locations, lease terms, and how the program would avoid competing with existing merchants. One council member suggested stronger outreach to residents and merchants; another asked for specifics on vendor spacing and parking impacts. Staff said they have invited local restaurants to participate for free and are still awaiting responses from several merchants.
No motion was required at the update; staff will return with operational details and recommended permit procedures. The program is intended to create new vendor opportunities while limiting competition with established downtown businesses through careful vendor selection and placement.
