Fire Chief Aaron Rich and FAST Squad Captain Andrew Miller presented the proposed Fire Department and EMS budgets at the Oct. 29 Budget Committee meeting.
They said administration costs have risen because duties for department leadership have increased, the radio line was raised to reflect a proposed purchase of a repeater system to improve communications across town (the purchase was discussed as a potential warrant article), and training costs were up because of new members requiring instruction. Captain Miller said FAST Squad/EMS costs have increased for training and outfitting new members.
Captain Andrew Miller specifically asked the committee to consider raising the Fire Chief’s stipend from $20,000 to $40,000, citing the increased workload of the role. The minutes record the presentation and the stipend request but do not show a committee vote or decision on any of the proposed changes during this meeting.
